This painting started out as a journaling 'sketch' I did while painting a covered teacup during this past Holiday Season. At the bottom of the painting is pieced collaged reminder letter written to myself that makes promises of living authentically and lusciously.
What a waste to allow ourselves to hold our tongues to such an extreme, that we lose our voice, and become uncomfortable with our own greatness.
I had laryngitis I believe from holding my tongue too much, and trying to be less than who I was , so another would'nt feel 'eclipsed' ... Hmmm I even tried to have alot 'less -going on'...but it didnt work....
(The teacup background was painted a 'low volume' light blue - and the final painting is a deafening scarlet red!)
On Exhibit at Foothill College 01-28feb2007.

Go Karin, In the spirit of Jonathan Green of SC you truly bring some vibrant locked up color to life. So much in the agua-melon. If folks could, they would, which means they will, someday purchase your art and then charge three times as much for others to hold it too.
Not on mute. Yes -- she has no mouth -- no voice-- yet there is something inside her that cannot be held in which expresses in other ways through the voices that speak at the end of her happinesses.
Karin,
Again, I apologize for calling you so late. I was expecting to get the answering machine. However, I imagine it was just meant to be. I enjoyed talking with you as much as I enjoy your artwork. As I indicated during our conversation, I first encountered your work In March 2005 @ an art exhibit while visiting in Oakland. I was just in awe when I saw your work! You know that old saying, "some things are better left unsaid?" Well, that's what your pieces do...there is nothing else to say! The intricacy, vibrancy and the subtle, yet overt messages says it all....without speaking a sound!!! I want you to know I am appreciative and inspired by your work. As I indicated in our conversation, for aboaut 2 weeks, I've toyed over which art piece to purchase, which notecards to get or should I get a magnet or should I, well maybe....okay....I'll get this piece, well and only this one....and just that one....okay narrow this down! This is what I've been going through since I located your sight. Whew, you make it real hard to decide!! Making a purchase should not be this difficult! I thought narrowing down how many pairs of shoes I would buy at time was hard.....NO! Purchasing Karin's artwork is hard! In closing, I would like to say, maybe one day you would create t-shirts w/ your artwork on it! That would be great for the Essence Festival 2007. You know everybody loves a t-shirt! Especially for the well-endowed. Anywhoo, I've placed my order and I anxiously await receiving my items! Thank you again. Your work just shows that being an African-American woman doesn't represent being depressed. We too are positively expressive living beings! Thanks Karin.

God I happened upon your site today and your blog captured exactly what is going on with me. I could not have said it better. As I begin the process of going through a divorce what you said so resonated with me. By the way I do have a piece of your art and cards, and I have sent people to your site to purchase cards. (when I get my money right I am going to get that peice if you have any left) Just know that there are folks in CT who love your work! You make me proud to be a Sister!
Love,
Babz
Nice piece of work Ms Karin. I don't think you ever been mute, I just think sometimes the person doen't listen, look, or work hard enought to translate what you are communicating. Your voice is great, your work is fantastic, and your heart is so giving. Continue your walk in greatness Ms. Beauty of the Art World....Verde
